5 reasons why you need live music at your wedding.

You want your wedding to be a day to remember. Nothing is going to make that a guarantee more than booking a live musician. Here are a few reasons why…

  1. Nobody has fun in a quiet room

Ok, introverts aside. I was in Taormina not so long ago and my wife and I were walking through the long main street trying to decide where to eat. In Sicily, your dinner is pretty much going to be amazing no matter where you go, so we were looking for a spot that also looked fun. We noticed something: some places were empty, while others were buzzing. Why? Music. The places that had music playing were drawing people in because they had an atmosphere, whereas the quiet places just seemed cold and characterless. And guess which ones had the most people? That’s right, the ones with live musicians!

  2. Connection

Putting a playlist on is a perfectly acceptable way of creating some background buzz, but that’s all it’s going to be. The difference when you have a live band or solo musician is that the tunes really stand out. It’s not that it has to be loud - lots of the events I play at just need me to provide chilled out background music as well as noisy floor-fillers! - but there’s something about the strum of a real life guitar and the gravel in a human voice that really reaches people and stops them in their tracks. Live music takes your favourite tunes and brings them to life, taking your guests on a trip down memory lane while at the same time creating some completely new memories for everyone.

  3. Get people moving

When I got married we had a mix of live music and Spotify playlists throughout the day. Both had their place, but there was a marked difference between the two; when the live music was playing, people got up and moved. Again, it’s not that it’s louder, it’s just that there’s something about the rhythm of a live instrument that gets people’s toes tapping and makes them want to move. Spotify is a great gap filler, but if you want to inject some energy into the day then you need a real life perfect wedding musician!

  4. Everyone is going to remember this

Your big day needs to be remembered, and live music is one way to create an unforgettable wedding. I’ve been to more weddings than I can count but the ones that really stand out to me are the ones that had great music. I’ve seen gymnasts, wandering saxophonists, a mariachi band that kept popping up at random points through the day, and most memorably one guy with a guitar who serenaded us through a beautiful summer wedding on a gorgeous terrace in Devon. No, it wasn’t me, and his performance was a big influence in my decision to pursue this as a career. I can still remember the tone of his voice and the way everyone commented on what a great idea it was to hire him. They were absolutely right.

  5. It just looks really cool

Do you need a better reason? A room without instruments is just tables and chairs! Ok, maybe this one is just the musician in me coming through. In any case, for me, part of the beauty of a wedding day is the spectacle. People aren’t just there to watch you get married - although admittedly that part is a pretty big deal!! - they’re there to be part of something. A Spotify playlist will lend you a bit of atmosphere, but for me there’s nothing quite like the intrigue of a gorgeous guitar or two propped against a speaker in the corner of the room. If your musician happens to be superbly dressed and creating the perfect vibe, that’s even better! And I think I know just the guy…

There are lots of reasons why music makes such a difference on a special day like this but these were a few that came to mind for me. So do me a favour; if you’re planning your big day, make sure you look around for an amazing wedding singer, or some kind of perfect wedding entertainment. It is out there and it will make a difference! Better still, just give me a shout…

Just me, doing my thing ;)
